About stevesavage

Steve has 18 years teaching, live and studio years behind him. He began playing piano pretty late aged 15 but took to it very quickly. After two years of playing, aged 17, Steve had enrolled at the City of Liverpool College on a preparitory 1 year speed course in music. He then went on to A levels and a diploma in music, as well as studying commercial and jazz music, a total of 6 years tuition!

He joined his first band aged 18. A rock combo called Mellow Mania, playing lots of Doors, Pink Floyd and general sixties-seventies pop. Aged 23 he was Musical Director in two panto's which ran in Liverpool, as well as playing in a Soul band (Full Delight) and an Irish trio. In '97 he joined an original band called Spare Rib. Spare Rib was a funky pop group which only disbanded (excuse the pun) in 2005 after failing to secure a record deal with the manager of Atomic Kitten. The band's biggest achievement was supporting Atomic Kitten at the 2002 Liverpool Summer Pops with vocalist Nicky Bell (vocals on 'Horny'), performing  to a sell out crowd of 5000 people.

During those years Steve was in a number of Jazz outfits playing all over the Northwest of England. He played with many fantastic musicians including Derek Forbes (original Simple Minds bassist), Gary Potter (Jazz guitarist), John Wheatcroft  (guitarist writing for 'Guitar Techniques' magazine) and Bongo Eddie (Kid Creole and the coconuts, James Brown). He also played with Mel Gaynor (Simple Minds' drummer) and supported the late, great Lonnie Donagan at his last gig in Liverpool at the famous Cavern club. Most recently Steve was piano player for vocalist Thomas Lang, and as well as playing many live gigs, Steve recorded with Tom for EMI earlier this year. Steve was also asked to join Echo & the Bunnymen but turned the job down due to other commitments. He recently declined an offer from the original bassist and drummer from Simple Minds to join them, in their new band 'New Gold Dreamers'.

Now aged 36, Steve has encompassed an array of styles and worked with some of the best musicians in Liverpool over the past 10 years. At present he is writing original music as well as songs and will be seeking publication soon.  To hear some of Steve's new original piano album 'Caught in your soul', visit www.myspace.com/caughtinyoursoul

Steve tutors privately, teaching beginner's through to advanced. He teaches all styles and is London College of Music registered for graded examinations and has had over two hundred students attain their grades over the time he has spent tutoring.

Steve now lives in Scotland and will continue tutoring and playing live. His latest venture is a Simple Minds tribute band called 'Simple Minded' http://www.simpleminded.biz/ who have began rehersing ready for live dates this year. Find out where and when to see them on the 'Gigs' page, or at the Simple Minded website!
